Diamond Speed Training Lab
Program Description
Diamond Speed is an elite speed and agility development program designed specifically for baseball and softball athletes who want to become faster, more explosive, and more dynamic on the diamond.
Speed in baseball and softball is different from simply being able to run fast in a straight line. Athletes must repeatedly accelerate, stop, react, change direction, move laterally, and explode into short bursts of movement.
Diamond Speed trains those qualities through sport-specific drills and performance training designed to transfer directly to the demands of the game.
The goal is to help athletes become faster from home to first, first step to the ball, base to base, and defensive position to defensive position.

First-Step Explosion
In baseball and softball, the first few steps often determine the outcome of a play.
Diamond Speed places significant emphasis on:
-
First-step reaction
-
Explosive starts
-
Acceleration
-
Body positioning
-
Hip mobility
-
Ground-force production
-
Short-distance sprinting
-
Reaction to visual and verbal cues
Athletes learn how to create separation from a stationary or athletic position and quickly transition into maximum acceleration.
Acceleration & Sprint Development
Athletes develop the mechanics necessary to become more efficient sprinters.
Training may include:
-
5-yard acceleration
-
10-yard acceleration
-
20-yard sprint development
-
Sprint mechanics
-
Drive phase
-
Arm action
-
Stride efficiency
-
Acceleration angles
-
Resistance sprinting
Because baseball and softball are dominated by short bursts, Diamond Speed emphasizes explosive acceleration rather than simply training long-distance running.
Defensive Range
Great defenders cover more ground because they can react faster and move more efficiently.
Diamond Speed develops:
-
Lateral movement
-
Crossover steps
-
Shuffle mechanics
-
Backpedaling
-
Drop steps
-
Direction changes
-
Reaction drills
-
Closing speed
The objective is to help athletes turn a difficult defensive play into a routine play by improving their ability to read, react, and move.
Base-Running Development
Speed can become a major competitive advantage on the bases.
Athletes can develop:
-
Home-to-first speed
-
First-to-third efficiency
-
Base-stealing acceleration
-
Lead-off movement
-
Turn technique
-
Running angles
-
Sliding mechanics
-
Efficient acceleration out of the box
Athletes learn that effective base running isn't simply about top-end speed—it is about reaction, acceleration, decision-making, angles, and efficiency.
Agility, Deceleration & Change of Direction
Elite athletes must be able to stop as quickly as they can start.
Diamond Speed develops the ability to:
Accelerate → Decelerate → Redirect → Explode
Athletes train:
-
Braking mechanics
-
Cutting
-
Lateral transitions
-
Multi-directional movement
-
Balance and body control
-
Reactive agility
This helps athletes move with greater control while preparing their bodies for the rapid changes in direction required during competition.
Performance Testing
JMISS can measure and track athlete development through performance testing such as:
-
5-yard sprint
-
10-yard sprint
-
20-yard sprint
-
Home-to-first time
-
Flying sprint
-
Pro agility
-
Lateral movement
-
Broad jump
-
Vertical jump
-
Reaction testing
Progress can be incorporated into the athlete's JMISS Player Advancement Profile, creating measurable evidence of development over time.
College & Professional Preparation
At the college and professional levels, small differences in speed and explosiveness can create significant competitive advantages.
A faster first step can mean:
-
Reaching a ground ball that another player cannot reach
-
Turning a single into a double
-
Beating out an infield hit
-
Stealing a base
-
Closing the gap on a fly ball
-
Creating additional defensive range
-
Generating more opportunities for the team
Diamond Speed prepares serious athletes for those demands by developing speed as a sport-specific performance skill, not simply as a fitness attribute.
The Diamond Speed Advantage
The objective isn't simply to make athletes "fast."
It is to make them dangerous on the diamond.
Diamond Speed™ helps athletes become:
-
FASTER OFF THE LINE.
-
QUICKER TO THE BALL.
-
MORE EXPLOSIVE.
-
MORE AGILE.
-
MORE EFFICIENT.
-
MORE REACTIVE.
-
MORE DYNAMIC.
Built for the Next Level
College and professional baseball and softball demand athletes who can move efficiently at game speed.
Diamond Speed gives serious athletes a structured environment to develop the acceleration, agility, reaction, explosiveness, and movement skills needed to compete at a higher level.
